Library Marks Vision with New Logo
The Joint Board of Directors of the Linebaugh Public Library System [LPLS] today revealed a new logo for Rutherford County’s 69-year old system of libraries.
The rebranding and logo is a culmination of several years of work following the implementation of a new strategic plan in 2014. “The LPLS strategic plan is a reflection of a directive from a community planning committee on the role they felt their libraries should play in the years ahead,” shares LPLS Director Rita Shacklett. “We are now empowered by our community and patrons to meet those needs. As a result, there have been a lot of changes in the Linebaugh System.”
The board of directors and staff expressed excitement about this logo which is an artistic interpretation of the mission of the library system.
The logo was designed by Murfreesboro advertising agency, Barker & Christol. Creative Director Steve Barker explains that the logo is an amalgam of both a question mark and an exclamation point, representing the processes of inquiry and discovery.
Barker said, “A library is a place of learning and our Linebaugh Library System is unique because it offers more than just a great collection of books. It offers workshops in the arts and crafts, and a number of technology experiences! We designed the logo to capture the wow that comes with discovery at the library.”
Suma Clark, secretary of the Joint Board of Directors and an expert in publishing and graphic design, says that society puts a lot more weight on a logo than is necessary, but a logo mark can set the stage for momentum. “This is a dynamic, growing county and the library has long been at the forefront of the demands of that growth. The logo mark is just that, a mark. But it’s also a symbol of the forward-thinking personality of the community.”
Along with the new logo, LPLS has adopted Explore. Imagine. Engage. as the new tagline and comes directly from the goals of the strategic plan as LPLS seeks to be the place where everyone can explore topics of interests, let their imaginations soar and engage with others online or within their facilities through activities, classes and books. While the logo will begin appearing on Library materials in the coming months, there are currently no plans for a mass implementation of signage or a major rebranding initiative. Be on the lookout for the new LPLS logo at all four of their branches, the LPLS Bookmobile and online presence. Explore, Imagine, Engage through LPLS!
