Hey! My name is Brandon Hernandez, the latest Barker & Christol intern. I am a recent graduate from Middle Tennessee State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising, along with minors in Marketing and Sociology. Before we get into explaining how my passion for the advertising industry came to be, let me first explain a little about myself.
I was born and raised in Orange County, California where life as a kid was easy, the weather was great, and the most gruesome activity on my to-do-list was figuring out where to skateboard with my friends for the day. About eight years ago my family relocated to Dickson, Tennessee where I spent my high school years. After touring MTSU, I fell in love with the campus and decided that was where my future would begin.
My love for advertising wasn’t immediate, but instead a slow-burning revelation. As I learned how advertising plays such a huge role in shaping people’s lifestyles and choices, I realized how much it had shaped my own life. Not only that, but I also noticed that I was already integrating advertising and marketing into my own contributions to the world in the way of aiding the branding of my fraternity, my university, and even the clothes I was wearing. Advertising isn’t just simply selling something. Advertising is also the ability to make change in the world through the people it reaches.
Although my experience in the classroom was extremely valuable, I knew that real experience could not be replaced, so I decided to take on this internship opportunity with Barker & Christol. I am very excited to be learning from such an experienced and talented team of people. During my time here I hope to learn the ins and outs of social media marketing and how it ties into what advertising is today. My goals for this internship experience are to open up new opportunities in the industry and to add onto my list of things I bring to the table, all well having some fun at the same time.
You can catch me outside of the office hanging out with my girlfriend and friends, playing video games for hours on end in hopes of reaching my empty childhood dreams of becoming a professional gamer, taking my new puppy Calvin to the dog park, raging my face off at a music festival, or simply doing the thing I love the most, napping.
